She moved to the United States as a young adult and settled in Augusta Georgia where she lived with her sponsor her cousin Hilde Durden. Upon marriage she moved to Montgomery AL. Irmgard was known for her active lifestyle and loved the outdoors. Some of her many activities included sailing snow skiing swimming and kayaking at the lake gardening and going to the gym. Irmgard was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Montgomery AL. She was retired from the State of Alabama Department of Treasury.
