James Ray Jimmy Cotney Jr. passed away peacefully at home on March 31 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 13 1950 in Wadley Alabama where he was also raised. Jimmy was the son of James Ray Cotney Sr. and Kathleen A. Cotney. In 1968 he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served from 1968 to 1970 and remained deeply committed to that identity throughout his life. He was quick to remind others that he was a Marine firstnot simply a Vietnam veteran. He made his living as a truck driver where he was well known on the CB radio by his handle Deadeye a nickname earned through his exceptional marksmanship. Jimmy had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the simple things in life. He enjoyed shooting fishing along the river and cheering on Auburn football.…
