The daughter of Neva and Harry Minor, she grew up in the Sandhills of Nebraska, along with a horse she named Slipaway. She spent summers on the Minor Ranch, south of Hyannis, and went to school in Alliance. Gloria also attended Brownell Hall in Omaha before entering Alliance High School. There she met her husband, Richard (Dick), to whom she was married for 72 years.She gave birth to their first child in Tokyo, Japan, where Dick was stationed during his service in the U.S. Army. He served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1975, including serving in the Finance Corps during his tour in Vietnam. He earned his Bachelor of Science in 1978 from Arizona State University and was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. He earned his Certified Public Accountant license in 1982 and started his own business shortly thereafter. He enjoyed hunting, riding horseback, playing chess, and playing poker.
