John J. Johnson Jr. age 80 of Highland passed away on Friday August 21 2026 at BarnesJewish Hospital in St. Louis MO. He was born on May 31 1946 in Springfield MA a son of the late John J. Johnson Sr. and Ruth nee Warner Johnson. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother William Johnson and stepdaughter Autumn HawkinsMeadows. John married Maxine nee Landert Johnson on January 18 1985 in Granite City who survives in Highland. He is also survived by a stepson Scott Hawkins of Wildwood MO and a brotherinlaw Steve Judi Landert of Lakeland FL. John was a lifelong scholar dedicated attorney and avid explorer who brought a deep curiosity to everything he did. He was born on July 11 1950 in Breese IL a son of the late Arnold Sr. and Christine nee Shleper Hilmes. He grew up in Trenton and graduated from Mater Dei High School. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Mary Ann Dennis Brown Raymond Hilmes Al Hilmes and Irene Hilmes. Ralph is survived by a brother Arnold Jay Hilmes Jr. sisterinlaw Joyce Hilmes great nieces and great nephews Byron Hilmes Shannon Hilmes Brandon Deb Hilmes and Sharon Steve Ramsey.
