George Edward Shirley 78 of rural Dieterich Illinois went to his eternal home surrounded by his family on March 30 2026. George was a devoted Christian a true man of God. He was a faithful member of Christs Church of Effingham Illinois. He would rise early before everyone else spending time listening to gospel music and reading his bible. He loved to write the words of the gospel music as he listened taking the words to heart. Hard work was his love language. He worked with his hands right up to the very end. He used his hands to serve as Jesus did. George was a big believer of lending a helping hand when needed. Georges missionary work was being active with Habitat for Humanity building a home in West Virginia. He had assisted with New Orleans after Katrina he had been to Mexico numerous times building houses and churches…
