Mary Elizabeth Smith, 89, of Milan, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Private burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Mary Elizabeth was born August 15, 1936 in Rock Island, the daughter of Adolf and Rosezella (Hauman) DeFauw. She married Harold Smith on January 22, 1955 in East Moline. He preceded her in death January 1, 2021. Mary Elizabeth worked at Eagle Foods Warehouse and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Matherville, IL. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and motorcycle riding. Survivors include her children, Barbara (Steve) Thirtyacre, New London, IA and William (Susan) Smith, Milan;10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Terry DeFauw, East Moline and Norma (Jim) Field, WV. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Mary Taylor and Pamela Ball; son, Allen Smith, Jr and brothers, Albert DeFauw and Adolf DeFauw.
