Jerry Thomas Sparks III Age 36 of Vanceburg Kentucky passed away at his home Tuesday August 4 2026. Jerry was born in Portsmouth Ohio November 23 1989 to the late Jerry Thomas Sparks Jr. and Deborah Boyce Rhinehardt of Ohio. Jerry worked for Superior Fibers here in Vanceburg for 12 years. He also was a carpenter by trade and was a member of the Ashland Carpenters Union 472. Jerry was a friend to everyone he met always welcoming them with a warm smile or a corny joke. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting riding side by sides horses and grilling with family and having the music up loud. He loved being surrounded by his family and loved ones. Mr. Douglas E. Applegate Age 93 of Vanceburg Kentucky passed away Monday August 17 2026 at his home with his loving family by his side. Douglas was born in Lewis County Kentucky July 8 1933 to the late Ralph and Helen Louise McCann Applegate. Douglas attended Morehead State University here he earned his Masters Degree. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served his country so proudly from 19551957. Douglas started working for the Lewis County School system in 1957 where he served as teacher for the Lewis County High School before becoming principal. He moved to Educational Supervisor then returned to work with students as the Principal for Foster Meade Technical Center.
