Tom Salter 80 of Deerfield passed away on March 25th 2026 in his wifes arms after a battle with lung cancer. Tom was born Nov. 7 1945 in Quincy MA the son of Philip and Jessie Dawe Salter. Tom graduated from Winchester H.S. and joined the Marine Corps in February 1964. As a member of the 12th Marines 3rd Marine Division he was among one of the earliest Marines to serve in Vietnam in April 1965. He was the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation Combat Action ribbon Vietnam Service medal the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross and Vietnamese Civic Action medal among other awards and citations for his extended service in the Vietnam War. After the service Tom attended Greenfield Community College and graduated from Amherst College.
