A memorial service will be held at 1030 am on August 22 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church 59 Court Street Dedham MA 02026. John Pierce Rousmaniere sailor historian advocate for safety at sea and 2020 National Sailing Hall of Fame inductee whose books became essential reading for generations of sailors died on August 8 2026. He was 82. The author or editor of nearly forty books on sailing yachting history and New York City John was widely regarded as the "dean of yachting historians. But he was more than a chronicler of the sport. He was a teacher a survivor and a thoughtful observer of the complicated human impetus to go to sea. Over decades of sailing he logged more than 40000 miles offshore including nine Newport Bermuda Races two Fastnet Races and three transatlantic passages. Elizabeth L. "Betty" Carrigan Lapierre of Milton passed peacefully on August 2 2025 in her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 81. As we mark the first anniversary of her passing we remember Elizabeth "Betty" Lapierre Carrigan with love and profound gratitude. Although a year has passed since we said goodbye her sincerity and generous spirit continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Born on March 14 1944 Betty was raised in Dedham and began her career in Hyde Park where she met the love of her life Jim Carrigan. Married in 1967 together they built a life grounded in love hard work family and community. After their marriage they made their home in Milton where they shared 50 wonderful years together. Jims passing in 2017 was an immeasurable loss in Bettys life her love for him never wavered.…
