From the very beginning Betty embodied grace compassion quiet strength and unwavering faith qualities that would define her throughout her remarkable life. Bettys journey through life included relationships that remained meaningful long after circumstances changed. She was first married toOllie M. Goodloe. Although their marriage eventually ended in divorce Betty and Ollie maintained a longstanding friendship and a deep bond of mutual respect throughout the years that followed. Their ability to remain connected after divorce was a beautiful reflection of Bettys heart and capacity to value the people who shared meaningful chapters of her life. He departed this world on July 28 2026 leaving behind a legacy of strength and compassion surrounded by his devoted wife Rhonda and their beloved pocket bully Sheba as he praised God with his hands lifted high. Barbara Brown Zikmund was born in Ann Arbor Michigan on October 16 1939. She was the daughter of Henry D. And Helen Langworthy Brown formerly of Albion Michigan. She attended Mumford High School and was active in Mayflower Congregational Church both in Detroit. She graduated from Beloit College in 1961 intending to pursue a career in Christian ministry. She earned a Bachelor of Divinity in 1964 and a Ph.D. in American Church History in 1969 from Duke University. She was ordained in the United Church of Christ upon completing her B.D. degree. After leaving Duke she taught at Albright College Temple University Ursinus College and Albion College. In 1975 she was the first woman to join the faculty of Chicago Theological Seminary as Director of Studies.
