Sharon Kay Hamill Bunn 77 passed away peacefully at home on August 13 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was born January 22 1949 in Lansing Michigan to Dale Stanley and Ruth Marie Hamill. She spent her early childhood in Laingsburg before moving to Houghton Lake in the sixth grade where she would spend most of her life. Sharon knew hardship and loss early. Her father died when she was three and her mother when she was 16. She also grew up with very little though many who knew her would never have guessed it. Sharon rarely focused on what she lacked. Instead she lived with gratitude and taught her children that everyone deserved kindness especially those who were struggling or had less. She was married to Rev. Donald Bates who preceded her in death. Nancy was a United Methodist ministers wife for over 40 years. Retired to Houghton Lake in 1989. Nancy is survived by her children David Korliss Bates Kathy Frankie Ward Jonathan Judy Bates and Dawn Scott Bond fifteen grandchildren sixteen greatgrandchildren daughterinlaw Tracy Bates and sister Darlene Mongeau. She was preceded in death by her parents son Bruce Bates siblings Luanne Parker and brother Divere Black. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Doug was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time in the Upper Peninsula and outdoors. He had a love for motorcycles musicespecially classic rock and classic countryand movies particularly horror and martial arts films. In his younger years Doug enjoyed bow hunting. He was also a talented tinkerer who enjoyed creating and building furniture. Liana was born on April 28 1961 in Grayling Michigan to Nicholas and Kathleen Moore Bowers. Liana spent most of her life in the Houghton Lake area where she graduated from high school. She then went on to receive her Associates Degree in Medical Billing. She worked in the medical field for a few years including being an EMT with Denton Township Ambulance. Liana then went into the family construction business and later worked with her son at 3Sixteen Construction in Prudenvillle until her recent illness.
