Gary "Wayne" Bearden 85 of rural Piedmont passed away Thursday August 13 2026 at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff MO. Wayne was born May 22 1941 in Wayne County to the late Alvis and Alice Kelley Bearden. A lifelong resident of Wayne County he was a member of the 1960 graduating class of the newly formed Clearwater R1 High School. Following high school Wayne enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a sonar operator from June 1 1960 to April 22 1964. He was proud to be an original plank owner of the USSHenry B. WilsonDDG7 and earned a Good Conduct Medal along with his honorable discharge. After returning home Wayne briefly worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Piedmont before quickly deciding that line of work wasnt for him. He was a lifelong resident of Iron County and a proud 1976 graduate of South Iron High School. Mikes roots ran deep in the land he called home.
