Jos Antonio Oleaga 80 of Elko Nevada passed away on March 18 2026 in Salt Lake City Utah after suffering a stroke. Joe Tony as his friends and adoptive family affectionately called him was born July 5 1945 in San Kristobal Bizkaia Spain to the late Francisco Oleaga and Maria Irigoyen. He left Spain in the 1960s and eventually made his way to the United States first living and working in New York City a world far removed from the small town in his native Basque country. He then headed west and went into sheepherding first at theCarpenter Ranch then at theCorta Livestock Ranch both located south of Elko Nevada. In the late 1980s the Cortas sold the ranch which was by then a cow operation to the Lattins and Joe stayed on as Ranch Manager. In 1988 Joe became a U.S. citizen.
