Norma was in the graduating class of 1961 at Phillipsburg High School then graduated from Moravian College with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Math in 1965. She was a library assistant at Mary Meuser Memorial Library in Easton PA. and the Phillipsburg Free Public Library in Phillipsburg NJ. She retired in 2018 from St. Johns Lutheran Church in Easton PA after serving as the church secretary for forty years. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Apgar of Phillipsburg NJ and her sister Ruth E. Thomas and her husband Brad of Forks Township PA a nephew Alex Neff and his wife Jen and their three children of Lopatcong Township NJ and cousin Catherine Boerstler of Bethlehem. Jean Torgersen 94 of Heath Village in Hackettstown New Jersey passed away on August 17 2026. Jean was born on February 2 1932 in Cranford New Jersey. She grew up in Cranford and graduated from Cranford High School in 1950. On August 25 1951 Jean married the love of her life the Rev. Mathias Matt Torgersen Jr. They shared 55 years of marriage until his passing on March 14 2007. Jean and Matt first met while in high school when they both attended their church youth group. Shortly after marrying they moved to Durham North Carolina where Matt attended Duke University. While there Jean worked for a Duke professor who encouraged her to take courses herself. She did and remained proud of their connection to Duke throughout her life. After Matt graduated from Duke and was ordained in the Methodist Church they began a lifetime together in ministry.
