Mary Sugrue (née Rowland), age 85, of New York, passed away on Thursday, October8th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.Mary was born in 1941 at her home in Derra, Bellacorick, County Mayo, Ireland. She isthe daughter of the late Patrick Rowland and the late Anne (Conway) Rowland. She isthe eldest of 10 siblings: Ann Brady (late Hughie), Sadie Rowland, Josephine Lyns(Dennis), Christy Rowland, Helen Shannon (late Tony), Geraldine Andrews (Richard),Celestine Armstrong (Eamon), and predeceased by Rose O’Connor (late Kevin) andPatrick Joseph “PJ” Rowland.Mary immigrated to the United States and arrived in Ellis Island in 1958 at the youngage of 17. She then travelled to Philadelphia with her sponsor, Aunt Margaret, whereshe began her working life as an au pair.Enjoying the summers in East Durham, New York, Mary was inspired to move to theBronx.
