Erica was born in Nassau County New York.. She developed a love for Mickey Mouse early on and it never faded. She also became an avid reader at an early age. During her elementary school years her family moved to South Carolina then Southern Pines and Fayetteville. Erica graduated from Douglas Byrd High School in 1976. She went directly to college at UNC Pembroke and graduated with honors. She then immediately started teaching for the Cumberland County Schools Exceptional Childrens Program. While teaching full time she managed to complete her Masters degree also at UNCP. Erica was a passionate advocate for children with intellectual disabilities. Later in her career she began to focus on helping children with ADHD and those with autism.
