Born to James and Flora Locklear Bettys story began in Pembroke North Carolina a place that shaped her long before she ever built a life elsewhere. Though she would spend over fifty years in Davidson County raising a family making lifelong friendships and faithfully working each day she always considered Robeson County home. She was proud of her Lumbee heritage and carried it with quiet confidence throughout her life. The traditions values and closeknit family bonds that marked her childhood continued to define the woman she became.
