LOUISBURG Avis Lorraine Lester Cottrell 78 of Louisburg passed away peacefully on August 4 2026. Avis was the daughter of the late Ralph Eugene Lester and Merthena Perkerson Lester Sykes. She was preceded in death by her brother Delbert Squirrel Lester. Avis was born and raised in Franklin County. She had a strong faith and love for the Lord that gave her peace and assurance that her eternal home was in heaven. She lived a life centered on family friendship and caring for others. As the owner of her beauty salon she formed many lifelong friendships and never met a stranger. She loved spending time at the beach caring for her dogs and making countless memories with her children grandchildren and greatgrandchildren who were her pride and joy. Betty was the daughter of the late William Mack and Sally Irma Aycock DeMent. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years William Bill Arthur Wrenn brothers William DeMent Herbert DeMent Robert DeMent Mack DeMent George Winston DeMent her sisters Josephine Leonard Janie Perry Ruth Oakley Irma DeMent Marie DeMent and Margaret DeMent Schepp. Betty grew up in Youngsville NC and graduated from Youngsville High School. She worked many years in accounting and farming with her husband Bill. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday August 8th at Piney Grove U.M.C. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
