Carolyn Marshall Dunbar 81 of the Ponzer community passed away on Monday August 10 2026 at home surrounded by her loving family. Ms. Carolyn was born in Beaufort County NC on December 23 1944 to the late Charles Henry Marshall and Eugenia Thomas Sanderson. In 1965 she married her high school sweetheart James K. Jimmy Dunbar who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of East Hyde High School and later obtained a bachelors in elementary education from the former East Carolina College. She taught school for two years at Bath and six years at Pungo Christian Academy. In 1974 she began her career with the United States Postal Service and in 2007 she retired as Postmaster of the Scranton post office.
