Melton, Sr. She was lovingly raised and nurtured by her maternal aunts, Pauline Murphy Ellis, Carnella Murphy Andrews, and her maternal uncle Samuel Murphy and his wife, Lois, all of Winston-Salem, NC. From an early age, she displayed remarkable determination, grace, and a passion for serving others that would define her extraordinary life.Ms. Murphy attended the local public schools and graduated Valedictorian with special honors from La Mae Beauty College in 1961. Crowned “Ms. La Mae Beauty College,” she proudly represented the school during Winston-Salem State Teachers College Homecoming festivities. Her excellence in cosmetology led to her becoming an assistant evening instructor under the leadership of Ms. Ola Mae Forte.
