Daniel W. Barnum, 84, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Country Club Retirement and Rehabilitation Center.He was born June 21, 1942, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of the late Elba and Genevieve (Burgard) Barnum. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, where he honorably fulfilled his military service.Daniel was a skilled and hardworking man who spent many years working with automobiles and motorcycles, particularly in collision repair. He had a natural mechanical ability and enjoyed understanding how things worked and finding ways to make them better. His talents extended beyond repairing cars, as he was also an inventor. One of his creations was the “Drag Mag,” a device designed to help demagnetize or neutralize components within an automobile engine.In his younger years, Daniel enjoyed the excitement of car racing and spent time around the racing scene during the 1960s.
