Tom was known by many as a gentle giant and a true gentleman. One can imagine him now in heaven busy rigging the Landfall for a day of sailing alongside his parentsboth undoubtedly offering directions at the same time. As a boy growing up in Long Branch Tom was active in the Boy Scouts earning the rank of Life Scout. He was a charter member of the Long Branch Junior Chamber of Commerce a former Captain of the PortauPeck Chemical Hose Company and a former Lieutenant in the Oceanport First Aid Squad. He also served as a football official in Monmouth and Ocean Counties and was a longtime member of the Long Branch Ice Boat and Yacht Club joining at the age of fourteen.
