Simon F. Frank Shutters 78 of Weedville PA passed away April 2nd 2026 at Penn Highlands DuBois after a brief illness. Simon grew up on Gardner Hill in Weedville. A member of the Gardner Hill church he loved to hand out the programs and ring the bell on Sunday. He graduated from Bennetts Valley High School in 1966. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War where he served his country for 1 year 11 months and 9 days stateside and worked as a bread baker. You could ask him how many ingredients he needed to make 100 loaves of bread and he would be able to recite it to you without even thinking. Before he was drafted and after he returned home he worked at Stackpole in Saint Marys. He also worked at BPD which was later renamed StellaJones in Falls Creek PA. He still attended their…

Richard Allen Dick Merat age 79 of Bennetts Valley Force PA died March 31 2026 at Penn HighlandsDuBois after a short illness. A son of the late Calvin and Dorothy Whitesell Merat he was born on November 28 1946 in Frenchville PA. On March 30 1968 he married Connie Berasi who survives at home. Along with his wife of 58 years Richard is survived by four children Brock Shane Brewer Merat of Penfield Lori Glenn Chittester of Weedville Melinda Jay Hedlund of Weedville and Tracey Carnahan of Hollywood PA Seven grandchildren two greatgrandchildren four siblings Robert Lisa Merat Irvin Paula Merat Regina Ralph Smith and Brenda Mitchell and a brotherinlaw Robert Blasik. Along with his parents Richard was predeceased by seven siblings Dianna Blasik Patricia Feldman James Susan and Kenny Merat and two siblings in infancy.
