Kusum was born on August 4 1942 in Chaklasi Gujarat India. She spent much of her childhood in Nakuru Kenya and returned to Gujarat to complete her education. After graduating from college she became a math and science teacher in Nakuru Kenya. In 1968 she married Ghanshyam bhai and began their life together in Kampala Uganda. Kusum continued to teach while Ghanshyam sought a brighter future in the US. In 1972 they fled the political turmoil in Uganda and began a new life in Pennsylvania. She will be forever remembered and loved by her husband Ghanshyam her children Alpesh and Suraj her daughtersinlaw Anoli and Seema her grandchildren Shey Zubin Zane Adhya and Ahrin her brother Hasmukh bhai her sister Hansa behn and their respective families. Joan went on to a long career as a legal secretary for Media Courthouse the Executive Assistant to the President at Dunwoody Village and she retired as an administrator for the Delaware County Office of Human Services.
