Donald Maurice Cathcart, 83, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.Born on August 15, 1942, he was the son of the late Nyal and Dorothy Cathcart.Don was a proud graduate of Clearfield High School and earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Indiana Tech. He dedicated over 40 years to his career at what is now Linde, retiring as Managing Director. In this role, he worked tirelessly to preserve jobs, notably preventing the company-mandated closure of one of the then-Praxair plants, safeguarding more than 100 positions. During his tenure as plant manager of the New Castle facility in the 1980s, he led efforts that secured the contract to coat the heat shields on the Space Shuttle—a significant achievement for such a small local plant.A man of many passions, Don earned his pilot’s license and founded the Penn-Ohio Flying Club in New Wilmington,…

Wilma M. Smith, age 84, of New Castle, passed away the morning of March 30, 2026, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.Born March 21, 1942, in Wheatland, PA, she was the daughter of Loyal F. and Minnie M. (Thellman) Smith.Wilma was a 1960 graduate of New Castle High School. She went on to earn her business associate degree from New Castle School of Business. For several years, Ms. Smith was the senior administrative assistant under the Secretary of Defense of Middle Eastern Affairs. She worked at the Pentagon, during the time of the 9/11 attacks. During her employment, she was a member of the Pentagon Garden Club. Cotton, age 99, of New Castle, passed away March 28, 2026, at Jameson Nursing and Rehab.Born May 2, 1926, she was the daughter of Clayton and Mary (Haynes) Green.Barbara was preceded in death on February 13, 2013, by her husband of 64 years, Clayton H. Cotton, whom she married March 27, 1948.She was employed with King’s Jewelry as a salesclerk for 25 years and was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Among her interests were reading and playing cards but Barbara enjoyed most the time shared with family and friends.She is survived by two daughters, Cathy A.
