A folk singer and guitarist scholar author veteran and digital pioneer he lived a full rich and varied life. He was dedicated to the life of the mind and the pursuit of knowledge. He graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University and held three masters degrees two from Harvard in Political Science and Russian Studies and one in Computer Science from Fairleigh Dickinson. William was multilingual and translated radio intercepts from Russian to English for Army intelligence in the mid1960s while stationed in a small town along the border between West and East Germany. It was there he met his wife Kathrin. They shared 59 years of love and laughter together. Their many adventures took them to Russia Italy California and up and down the northeastern U.S. They finally landed in Milford PA living there together for 38 years. Artist volunteer and cherished woman of God Karen was found passed away at her Home in Hawley Pennsylvania on Wednesday May 6 2026. Born in Bergenfield New Jersey December 30 1960 to a Eugene J. Mehrtens and Beverly Mehrtens. Karen was a pillar of the Robert J. Drake Senior Community Center in Hawley where she turned her passion for creativity into gifts for others. She was a dedicated instructor specifically known for her expertise in the art of sculpture. Karen spent countless hours fostering a sense of community through arts and crafts programs teaching others to find their own creative voice. When she wasnt teaching Karen found peace in the quiet moments of life. She loved the outdoors and was rarely seen without her beloved dog Bella her constant companion.
