With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Jerry Willis Shealy who departed this life on August 6 2026. Born in St. Stephen South Carolina Jerry graced this world with his presence from an early age leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. A memorial service will be held at 200 p.m. Tuesday August 11 2026 at Central United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 100 p.m. in the church Commons Area. Jerrys journey began in St. Stephen where he grew up in a large family graduating from St. Stephen High School. He went on to further his education earning an Associate Degree in Business from Frances Marion College setting the stage for a life of dedication and service. Alan was predeceased by a brother Edwin L. Eddie Capps Jr. At the heart of his life was an unwavering servants heart. He lived a life defined by service faithfully dedicating himself to caring for others through a distinguished career in law enforcement beginning with the Surfside Beach Police Department followed by the Florence Police Department and ending at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He extended quiet acts of kindness to many that he encountered. Born on July 18 1938 in Elizabeth NJ to George and Helen McMahon Ferguson Jan graduated from Wheaton College with a degree in history and international studies including studies in Vienna Austria. She was recruited during her senior year to work for the Central Intelligence Agency CIA to assist station chiefs in setting up field stations. Upon graduation Jan went to Radcliff to become proficient in typing and shorthand. Jan started with the Agency in Washinton DC underwent field training and was asked to take an assignment in Vientiane Laos. Jan was trilingual and spoke English as well as fluent Thai and Lao. She became a translator for the agency which is where she met the love of her life Tom who was a CIA paramilitary officer. Their first date…

Bernard Emerson Moore passed away peacefully at home on July 5 2026. Born on April 27 1925 in Florence South Carolina he was the son of the late Ralph Hill Moore and Vera Boylston Moore. In 1951 Bernard married Dorothy Tolson of Florence and together they shared a loving and devoted marriage for 71 years. He graduated from Florence High School in 1942 and remained a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church for 89 years where he served on numerous committees. A proud World War II veteran Bernard served his country with honor before attending the Capital Radio Institute of America in Washington D.C. Upon returning to Florence he worked at several local radio stations until 1954 when he played a pivotal role in bringing WBTW Television to the airwaves. She was born a Florence native on May 7 1938 to the late Annie Mae Vaughn Jackson and Daniel Carl Jackson Sr. Janice was a debutant in her teenage years and graduated in the class of 1956 from McClenaghan High School and Florence Business College. She enjoyed being a wife mother and grandmother. On August 2 1958 she married Charles Franklin Frank Deaton from Mt. Gilead NC. They were married for 51 years when Frank passed away August 13 2009. On the 70th anniversary of when he first introduced himself to his lifelong sweetheart at a popular dance hall called Ruby and Johns Robert Fletcher McLean entered his final rest. Bob was born to Solomon McLean and Mary Hasty McLean in Richmond County North Carolina on October 25 1937 the last of seven children and he died Friday July 10 2026. From his loving family and the closeknit mill village community in which he was raised Bob learned the importance of faith family hard work humility and integrity. In his youth Bob played every sport available. While at Rohanen High School in Rockingham North Carolina he excelled at basketball baseball football and catching the eye of Emily Ann Leigh from neighboring Hamlet. Mrs. Anne Poston McNair 84 passed away July 9 2026 after a brief stay at the McLeod Hospice House. Mrs. McNair was born November 27 1941 in Florence South Carolina the daughter of Willie Columbus and Eulila McLaughlin Poston. Mrs. McNair graduated from McClenaghan High School a place where she eventually taught after earning her undergraduate degree from Winthrop University. Although she temporarily left the classroom to raise her sons she eventually earned her masters degree from Francis Marion University and became the Curriculum Coordinator at what is now Lester Elementary School. She eventually retired from Florence School District One in 2006. Mrs. McNair was a devoted member of Central United Methodist Church where she served for many years as the secretary to the Church Council. She also assisted with the Altar Guild volunteered with Masterworks and participated in Balcony Friends the Happy Travelers and countless Bible studies. She thoroughly…
