Jimmy was married to Harriet Hawkins McClain for 59 years. He served in the United States Navy for 8 years during the Vietnam War where he received several recognitions such as Navy Unit Commendation Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Combat Action Ribbon National Defense Service Medal Vietnam Service Medal Vietnam Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Award 1st award. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked for TVA with the Local IBEW 175 Union as a Journeyman Wireman before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion in South Pittsburg Tennessee Post 62 a member of FLEAFraternal Order of Linemen and Electricians.
