Douglas Theodore Mewis was born on October 8th 1939 in St. Josephs Hospital Houston Texas to Lottie Mewis. He was raised by Grandparents Richard W. Mewis and Adele Brockmann Mewis. Doug passed on February 8 2026 in Sugar Land Texas at the age of 86. He attended the Bellville Texas public schools graduating in 1958. While still in high school he joined the Texas National Guard in Brenham attending two summer camps. Upon finishing high school he joined the Regular United States Army training with the 1st Division in Fort Riley Kansas. Upon completion of training he shipped out for a threeyear tour in Munich Germany. He served as an Artillery Surveyor and Forward Observer with the 24th Division Artillery attaining the rank of Specialist E4.
