Born in El Paso TX on March 11 1930 Miguel graduated from El Paso High School and continued his education by attending and graduating from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin class of 1953. Upon graduating as a pharmacist he served his country in the US Army branch for 2 years serving time abroad during the Korean War. When Miguel returned to El Paso he worked in various local pharmacies including learning much from his time at McKees Pharmacy. Then in 1958 Miguel with the support of his father Miguel B. Estrada SR. opened his own independent pharmacy on the corner of Alameda and Raynolds. Alameda Thrifty Pharmacy is still open and carrying on Miguels legacy as the oldest operating independent pharmacy in El Paso. On the morning of March 13 2026 Juan N. Rodriguez passed away. For 94 years he built a life in northern Mexico and Texas that included 5 children and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years Guillermina and one of his grandchildren. As a young boy in a family of ten in a small town of northern Mexico he would help the family by selling tamales door to door and learned the value of hard work through the numerous odd jobs he held growing up. He set his sights on education and dreamed of going to high school and college. He made it through most of middle school then had to get to work.
