Billy Steven Oates 85 of Palmer Texas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 10 2026. A proud lifelong resident of Palmer Billy was born on October 19 1940 to Thomas Monroe Oates and Polly Barker Oates. Bill shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life and soulmate Lepha Brumley Oates. The love they had for one another was undeniable the way they looked at each other could simply melt your heart. Their marriage was a true testament of devotion faith and enduring love. He was a devoted father to this sons Timothy Steven Oates and wife Susan and Scott Ryan Oates and wife Lindsey. Billy was a proud and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and sixteen greatgrandchildren each of whom he cherished deeply. His family was his greatest joy and blessing. William Donald Gorman was born in a small house in the farming community of Rankin on December 20 1934. His parents Elliott Owen Gorman and Katherine Falsom Gorman struggled through the Depression to survive. His sister Janice Gorman was born on January 18 1938. Life was difficult but this infused in the people of the greatest generation a work ethic and frugality that would last a lifetime. In high school Bill had a close circle of friends and they enjoyed playing basketball cruising the streets on Friday and Saturday nights and riding the bus to see a matinee double feature on Saturdays for 25 cents. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington from 1954 to 1956 and was a member of the ROTC. In 1956 in transferred to the University of Texas at Austin to study Electrical Engineering.
