She was born Charlie Lou Moses on August 18 1943 in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston Texas to parents Emily Moses ne Nelson and Charley Moses in the midst of World War II in which her father served. She excelled in her studies and graduated from Galvestons Ball High School in 1961. Home from the University of Texas after her first semester she was set up on a New Years Eve blind date with Temple Paysse changing her lifes course. Temple was a graduate student at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver Colorado and Charlie soon transferred her studies to Denver University. Dorothy was born the first daughter and third child of Charlie and Evie Matejka on February 27 1935. After graduating as salutatorian from Santa Fe High School in 1953 she married James Mittelsted and raised three children. Being very active in the sport of bowling Dorothy coached the children and juniorsenior bowlers while she and James owned the Dickinson Bayou Bowl bowling center from 19621969. She continued to be an active bowler throughout her adult life winning the TWBA State Championship in Division A in 1983. She retired from bowling in 1992 and took up quilting. She hosted a small quilt group in her home from 1992 through 2011 where she helped teach friends and family the art of quilting.
