Ferlin G. Mathews, age 60, of Nokesville, VA passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026 in Warrenton, VA.Ferlin was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend. He was born with an old soul and loved doing things the old fashion way from gardening and canning, raising poultry and other livestock to provide for his family and carrying on the family tradition of making apple butter in his copper kettle, and making lye soap.His love of poultry started at an early age and grew over the years. Especially when his son was born and started picking up the same interested. Ferlin and his son Jacob started showing at the Fauquier Fair when Jacob was five years old. Donald “Don” Harrison Boyd passed away on May 8, 2026 after a brief hospice stay at the Virgina Hospital Center in Arlington, Virginia.Don was born to Tierney Wilson Boyd and Elsie Willie Lockhart Boyd on June 17, 1935 in Kimball, West Virginia. He attended McDowell County schools, graduating from Welch High School in 1953. During his high school years, he earned the nickname “Dashing Don” because of his storied football career, and was rewarded for his outstanding play by being selected to the All-County, All Area, All State and High School All American Teams. He accepted a scholarship to attend the University of Louisville and was a four-year starter for the Cardinals. After graduation in 1957, he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns, but his football career was cut short by a back injury.
