George Carrington Callaway Jr 90 of Charlottesville passed away on Tuesday August 4 2026 at his home. He was born on January 26 1936 in Nelson County a son of the late George Carrington and Sarah Jane Williams Callaway. George retired from the Maintenance Department of ATT Telephone Company. He loved to hunt fish tell great fish stories and spend time with his family and friends. His family and Lord Jesus brought him so much joy and he loved them with all his heart. He had many years of service with the Monticello Wesleyan Church in Charlottesville and was currently attending Charlottesville Church of the Brethren. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Betty L. James was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Phyllis Scott of 66 years and infant son Matthew treasured niece and nephew Jennifer and Allen Hensley brothers Cecil and sisterinlaw Jean Higgins Winston and sisterinlaw Virginia Ann Higgins sister Mary Lousie Lennon and husband Bob and Grandfather Walter David Foster Poppy.
