Phyllis was life in motion vibrant lively and as bold as her favorite color red. She had a way of making every room feel warmer and every person feel seen. She never met a stranger only people she had not yet welcomed. Her laughter was contagious her smile freely given and her presence unforgettable. Born on April 14 1953 Phyllis lived a life rooted in love faith and connection. She graduated from George Washington Carver class of 1971 and Danville Community College class of 1974 where she formed lifelong friendships that remained incredibly important to her. She stayed closely connected with her classmates over the years cherishing those relationships deeply. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Axton Virginia. Ruby was the beloved daughter of the late Willie Grant Martin and Annie ReynoldsMartin. She attended Carver High School and dedicated much of her early life caring for the family home and was considered a second mother to her siblings. She later served as a devoted homemaker for her husband and children. Ruby found joy in spending time with those she loved and creating lasting memories with her children and grandchildren. Ruby was united in marriage to Clarence Butler Sr. who affectionately referred to her as the love of my life.
