Donald L. Gerkin 76 of Leon passed away Monday October 12, 2026 at CAMC General hospital. He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High. He retired from the Kroger Corporation warehouse with 49 years of service. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Roanoke VA and enjoyed shooting pool in his spare time.Born July 12, 1950 in Kanawha County he was the son of the late William Ray Gerkin and Frances Dawson Gerkin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Smith.Survivors include his daughter, Dawn (Jason) McMillion of Leon; son, Brett (Laurie) Gerkin of Columbia SC; brothers, William Gerkin of OH, Mark (Susan) Gerkin of NC and Danny Gerkin of NC; grandchildren, Katie Witt (Josh Kirwan), Samantha Witt (Eli Smith), Chayce Godfrey, Bryan (Maddison) Gerkin and Mallory Gerkin. Sarah Michele Kathleen May Sowards 48 of Red House passed away Friday October 9, 2026 at her home following a sudden illness. She was a 1996 graduate of Cabell Midland High School and graduate of Garnett Career Center with a BSN in nursing. Michele worked for several years in the nursing field.Born June 15, 1978 in Huntington she was the daughter of Leonard May Jr. of Red House and the late Judy Ray May.
