Diane C. (Schneider) Downs, 81, of Shell Lake, WI, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on August 17, 2026.Diane was born June 11, 1945, in Bancroft, IA, the daughter of William and Colette Schneider. She attended St. Cecelia’s Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona, IA, in 1963. After graduation, she enjoyed working for a few years in the finance department at Snap-on Tools in Algona. In fact, this is where Diane met the guy that worked in the backroom named Douglas. On June 25, 1966, Diane married Douglas Downs in Algona and decided to be a stay-at-home mother while raising their three sons. During their 58 years of marriage, they lived in Algona, Mason City and Ankeny, IA; Omaha, NE; and Eagan, MN.
