Ida Enquist passed away peacefully on August 1 2026 at the age of 98. She was the last of 7 Gates children originally from Bellevue and Ft. Crook Nebraska. Ida lived a long and full life making homes in several countries and many states over the years. Earlier this week she shared that she was looking forward to roller skating again with her husband. We like to think theyre together again. After graduating from high school Ida worked for "Ma Bell" as a telephone operator back when operators manually connected calls using switchboards. After marrying she became a homemaker and devoted herself to raising her three daughters Peggy Enquist Sandy Miller and Kathy Enquist. They say "Age is just a number." Which was so true for Jean born on May 11 1925 with her twin sister May to Frank and Florence Worley of Wellingborough Northants England. She died at the age of 101 on August 4 2026 at the Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay WI. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene G. Freund and her sister May Perkins who lived to celebrate 100 years with her. At the tender age of 14 she and her sister left school in 1939 to apprentice at a clothing firm making uniforms for soldiers as World War II started that year in England going on for 6 years. Glenn Franklin Bernik 74 passed away peacefully on June 25 2026 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay from recurrent cancer. He was born December 11 1951 at Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee to Betty Mae ThorpOverbeck and William Edward Bernik and was named after both grandfathers Glen Thorp and Frank Bernik. He graduated from Greenfield High School in Greenfield WI June of 1969. Shortly after he attended college at UW Madison until 1971 during the Vietnam War. On February 22 1977 he enlisted in the US Navy where he served until February 21 1983 when he was honorably discharged. Eds family moved to Door County in 1951 settling into the Jacksonport home they had built over the previous several years. He spent part of his primary education in the oneroom schoolhouse in Jacksonport and graduated from Sevastopol High School with the class of 1957. Ed joined the United States Navy where he trained in electronics. He served aboard U.S. destroyers in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea and his service gave him the opportunity to explore several European countries. After completing four years in the military Ed was hired by Beltone Hearing Aid Company. While working he pursued a degree in electronic engineering over several years.
