Carol Jean McClain was born on May 4 1938 to Edward and Dorothy Montague in Minneapolis Minnesota. She had one sister and three brothers. Carol married Duane McClain on October 20 1956 and they celebrated 61 years together upon his death in 2017. Carol and Duane had a great life together raising five wonderful children and caring for more. Together they spent time running multiple local businesses sharing a love of God and traveling the world. Carols family children grand and greatgrandchildren gave her such incredible joy. She loved family holidays especially the annual McClain family Christmas cookie event. She also was an advocate for retail therapy. She was a mom grandma and great grandmother to so many kids. She loved attending everything from dance recitals to hockey basketball and football games. She was known for her selflessness and willingness to help others. Carol was a Boy Scout and Girl…

Joseph Rivers 82 of Sparta died Monday August 10 2026 at Brookdale Assisted Living in La Crosse. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday September 10 2026 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sparta with Father Eric Berns officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 100 and VFW Post 2112 both of Sparta following the service. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Eileen J. Sopher passed away at 1235 p.m. on Saturday August 8 2026. She was born in Burlington WI on August 29 1926 the oldest of 2 girls of Harold and Beulah Palmer Josephson of Walworth County WI near Como. Eileen graduated from Lake Geneva High School and attended UW Madisons School of Music. Eileen was a wonderful pianist. She started playing piano at the age of 3 and had her first concert in Chicago at the age of 5. She met Murray her future husband on a blind date at the age of 16. They were married June 8 1946. They were married for 67 years until Murrays passing in 2013. They had 6 children. During Eileens life together with Murray they farmed near Delavan WI. Then after 10 years Murray went back to college to study for the ministry. He and Eileen were Pastor and wife in churches…
