Joan Marie Tilley (nee McCardle), 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at the Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 3, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret McCardle. Joan attended St. Elizabeth’s High School in Wilmington, graduating in 1951. Following high school, Joan attended Goldey-Beacom College, also in Wilmington.While in college, Joan met the love of her life, Douglas Selmer Tilley. They were married in Wilmington in 1954 and remained married for 71 years at the time of Doug’s passing in 2025. Following Doug’s college graduation, Joan moved to Fort Hood, Texas for 2 years while Doug served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge in February 1957, Joan and Doug returned to Wilmington where Joan began a long career in administrative support with DuPont, from whom she retired in 1994.Joan and Doug were longtime residents…
