Mary Evelyn Eckman, age 86, passed away on June 30, 2026. She was born on September 7, 1939, to Claude and Lizzie Hagan in Uniontown, KY. She was the only daughter with three brothers.Mary Evelyn was a deeply religious woman and a lifelong member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She said many rosaries in her lifetime and lovingly taught the children this beautiful prayer when she was a teacher’s aide at St. Ann School. Mary Evelyn was an active volunteer of Right to Life in the 1970’s and 1980’s and often counseled young women, driving them to doctor appointments or whatever was needed to prevent abortion. She and her husband, Fred, attended the March for Life many times in Washington, D.C. They were recipients of the Sofia Award given by the Diocese of Owensboro, which is an award to celebrate someone from each parish who exemplifies stewardship in their church,…
