Claire G. walker, 97 of Poland passed away on Wednesday, August 19th.Claire was born on April 4, 1929, in Lewiston to Prosper Gionet and Theresa (Linehan) Gionet. She attended Lewiston High School and Bates College, later finishing her degree at the University of Southern Maine. She worked as a lab technician at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, a teacher at Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls, and the food services manager at Tripp Lake Camp in Poland. She also served on the boards of the Ricker Memorial Library and Poland Community Health Center.Claire married James Gerry Walker on June 14, 1948, and together they raised their five children at their home on Strout Road in Poland, where she resided the rest of her life. Susan Irene Sommers Parsons died on August 14, 2026, at the age of 77, from progressive supranuclear palsy.She was born on April 14, 1949, to Dorothy (Hiestand) and Harold Sommers in Logan, Ohio, where she attended the local public schools and graduated as salutatorian. Sue was an excellent student and talented musician, winning statewide awards for her achievements in Latin, Spanish, English, biology, and math. She played the clarinet and piano for the band, marching band, and various ensembles, while being a majorette and cheerleader. High school also marked the commencement of her lifelong career as a church organist.Sue earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees in French and French literature at Ohio University in Athens. During both her undergraduate and graduate programs, she studied abroad in France, which she greatly enjoyed.
