She spent her early childhood growing up on farms throughout Minnesota, where she developed a lifelong love for horses and country living. Among her earliest treasures was her beloved mare, Lady, who held a special place in her heart for many years.After graduating high school, Dorothy briefly worked as a switchboard operator in Minnesota before embarking on what would become a life marked by adventure and courage. She first journeyed to Alaska with her sister Margie and brother-in-law Vern Bynum, where they homesteaded together in the rugged Alaskan wilderness before Alaska had even achieved statehood. She eventually met and married William (Willy) Frickle on January 20, 1944. They soon started their family and ran several businesses in the Hardin area before moving to Billings in the early 1980’s. Mary worked in numerous retail jobs before retiring at the age of 85. She had a feisty spirit and a strong will to get things done which she carried with her to the age of 102. He spent 2 years in Germany and in those 2 years he saved up his weekend passes and traveled around Europe and reconnected with family in the Netherlands.
