She spent her early childhood growing up on farms throughout Minnesota, where she developed a lifelong love for horses and country living. Among her earliest treasures was her beloved mare, Lady, who held a special place in her heart for many years.After graduating high school, Dorothy briefly worked as a switchboard operator in Minnesota before embarking on what would become a life marked by adventure and courage. Mary worked in numerous retail jobs before retiring at the age of 85. She had a feisty spirit and a strong will to get things done which she carried with her to the age of 102.
