Joseph Jude Leonard age 86 of Totowa passed away peacefully on Thursday July 30 2026 while held close by his loved ones. Born in Paterson to the late Joseph A. and Edatha Leonard nee Parker Joe was raised in the closeknit neighborhood of South Paterson. He was a graduate of Central High School and balanced school with various jobs to help support his family always doing whatever was necessary. In his senior year he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served his country for six years receiving the National Defense Service Medal the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Good Conduct Medal amongst other honors. He was an honorable and courageous man. After completing his military service Joe returned home to begin his lifelong career in the insurance industry where he progressed from a sales agent to a senior executive managing large regional territories. She was the cherished sister of Dr. Fredrick Paternoster and his wife Mary Catherine and was predeceased by her sisters Patrice Paternoster Decker and Lisa Ann Paternoster. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces Mary Sage Kabakci and her husband Arben Shaylyn Decker and her husband Matthew Raue and Maura Cerami and her husband Nicholas as well as her nephew Paul Paternoster and his wife Marina. Born on December 14 1964 in Kearny New Jersey he was the beloved son of the late Joseph R. Dargis and the late Annie nee Higgins Seely. He spent his early childhood in Kearny before moving to Totowa New Jersey at the age of five where he began building the life and relationships that would remain so important to him throughout his years.
