John is survived by his daughter, Emily A. Valenzuela, son-in-law, Cristian Valenzuela, two granddaughters, Lucia M. Valenzuela and Laura I. Valenzuela, sister, Paula A. Kohut, brother, Robert J. Kohut, niece Rebbeca A. Vreeland, nephews, Clifford M. Kohut and Christopher R. Kohut, grandnieces, Emma J. Kohut and Lucy E. Kohut and grandnephew R. Andrew Kohut, aunt, Donna M. Palmer and uncle, Al Ohm, and many cousins from Chicago. John was preceded in death by his wife, Corina E. Kohut, son, Christopher J. Kohut,parents, Joanne K. Kohut and Robert I. Kohut, brother, James R. Kohut, and grandparents Emil and Ruth Kohut and George and Harriet Hughes. John remained close to his stepmother, Frances S. Laura Huffman Sperry, 65, of Hickory, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at her home.Born April 4, 1961, in Okinawa, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Donald B. Huffman and Arda Jane Shell Huffman.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Lynn Huffman.Laura was a wonderful person, who loved spending time with her husband, son, grandson and her puppies.
