Walter Dean Setzer, 83, of Taylorsville, passed away August 18, 2026 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.Born September 10, 1942, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Carl Lee Setzer & Neta Killian Setzer.Walter was a devoted Christian, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a man who valued his family, his faith, and the activities he enjoyed throughout his life.Walter was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War, where he received both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was self-employed as a general contractor, a past member and president of the Bethlehem Lions Club, where he served his community and enjoyed being involved with others. He was also a member of the Unifour Trail Bike Club and had a love for dirt biking. He especially enjoyed saltwater fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors.Walter also had a creative side and enjoyed watercolor painting.…

Fredrick Antonio Motley, affectionately known as, “Tater”, of Pinnacle Ct., Lenoir, passed away. Thursday, August 20, 2026, at his residence. He was born on March 16, 1975, in Caldwell County to Fredrick Robert Motley and the late Nancy Delores Jones Motley. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bob and Juanita Motley and maternal grandparents, James and Doris Jones.Fredrick was a lifetime member of New Covenant United Methodist Church, formerly known as Smith Memorial United Methodist Church. A 1993 graduate of West Caldwell High School, he was an avid wrestler and later developed a passion for martial arts. Fredrick enjoyed NASCAR racing, high-performance vehicles, and music of all genres. He was affectionately known for his love of speed wherever he drove. She was born on September 4, 1968, in Santa Clara, Durango, Mexico to Paula Garcie De La Fuente and the late Salome Aguero Martinez.
