Dr. Bill G. Hurd, age 92 of Winchester, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 15, 2026. He was born on February 1, 1934, in Rochester, Texas to the late Herbert Newton and Stella (Pierson) Hurd. Bill served his country in the United States Army. He then pursued his education, earning a Doctorate in Business and Doctorate in Psychology. A certified hypnotherapist and private investigator, Bill, who was very intelligent and meticulous, worked professionally in insurance until his retirement. A devoted Christian, he was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed bible study. Bill adored his late wife, Edna Montez Hurd, and missed her dearly. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Herbert Hurd, Mary Barbieri, and Infant Hurd. Jeffrey Lynn Merritt, age 63 of Decherd, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Highpoint Medical Center. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Winchester on October 1, 1962, to the late James Forrest and Louise (Green) Merritt. Throughout his life, Jeff worked several jobs including helping his parents on their cattle farm and working at several grocery stores. He was the assistant branch manager of several small loan offices, as well as the warehouse manager of a furniture store. He worked as a custodian at Nissan and eventually retired from Franklin County High School. Known for his smile, firm handshake, and great sense of humor, Jeff never met a stranger and loved and respected everyone.
