Selman Missionary Baptist Church while growing up. While living in Mt. Selman, he also was a Scout Master for many years. He drove a truck for many years and covered lots of ground and served our country in the Air Force early in life. Joe Harry Sumrall, age 84, joined his Lord in Heaven on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, following a brief illness at his home in Jacksonville, Texas.Joe was born the third of six children on September 8, 1941, to Harry Mondell Sumrall and Jimmie Ann Boutwell Sumrall. Joe grew up in the Landrum Community of Ovett in Jones County, Mississippi (near Ellisville and Laurel) surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and good friends. He learned construction, gardening, tending to farm animals, and how to fix just about anything, as well as how to deal with older and younger sisters and a baby brother who thought he hung the moon.He began driving the school bus for the community at age 15 and played football and the tuba during high school.
