Marion Jeanette Schrum 82 passed away February 11 after a long and courageous journey through lifes many challenges. Born and raised in Fox Hill Jeanette was the oldest daughter of George Franklin and Norine Verlander. She graduated from Hampton High School where she met the love of her life Dannie Schrum. Their high school romance grew into a devoted marriage that lasted 52 years until Dannies passing in 2013. Together Jeanette and Dannie built not only a beautiful family but also a successful business Crane Research. As Office Manager and Bookkeeper Jeanette played an essential role in the companys growth and success. She worked with dedication and pride supporting both the business and her husband every step of the way. Jeanettes greatest joy was her family. Thomas was born in Kenly NC. He moved to Newport News VA in 1958 after graduating from Kenly High School to begin work at CO railroad and then Newport News Shipyard and Dry Dock Co. After leaving the shipyard he began work at NASA Research Center in 1973 as a nuclear pipefitter until his retirement in 2011. Thomas was always a selftaught mechanic for a variety of things. An automotive mechanic of older vehicles he often purchased to be restored and sold or kept for personal use. He was always happy to lend a helping hand to help others with car repairs. When it was not a vehicle that needed to be worked on you could find him repairing lawn mowers or other lawn equipment for himself and others. Martin Page Reade son husband father brother uncle and mentor to many passed away peacefully on January 19 2026 at the age of 83. He was born February 21 1942 in Nassawadox Virginia to Page and Mabel Reade and grew up in Melfa on Virginias Eastern Shore. A graduate of Onancock High School he told his principal he would retire by age 40 a goal he later achieved. He continued his education at the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School served in the U.S. Army and later worked for the United States Postal Service. Guided by an entrepreneurial spirit Martin founded Marcell Industries International in 1979. Its success allowed him to fulfill his promise of early retirement when he left the USPS in 1981 at age 39.
