Timothy G. Murphy age 69 Freedom passed away on Wednesday August 5 2026 at ThedaCare in Neenah. He was born on September 6 1956 in Green Bay to Martin and Patricia Kamps Murphy. Tim was known by so many throughout the Freedom community he never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. His gift for making connections earned him friendships that lasted a lifetime. Whether it was helping sustain the Freedom Youth Wrestling program or volunteering for Freedom Country Fest Tim gave his time energy and heart to help others and to strengthen the community he loved. Tim took pride in owning and operating his lawn care business where many came to know him through his meticulous work cutting lawns and plowing snow. Gayle Ann Reider 73 passed away on Thursday August 6 2026 surrounded by her family. Gayle was born on August 10 1952 to Stanley and Lillian Johnson Verstegen in Little Chute. On January 17 1975 she was united in marriage to John Edd Reider. Together they built a life and raised their family. She was a proud mom and grandma and loved keeping in touch with her family calling her three girls every night to see how their day went. Gayle attended the University of Oshkosh and Marion University and received her Masters Degree in Education. She spent her career as a teacher principal and administrator with St. Aloysius and the Kaukauna Catholic School System. Her students loved her and she took great pride in her work. Marian M. Van Asten of Freedom age 101 passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday August 9 2026. She was born on August 18 1924 in the Town of Vandenbroek daughter of the late Martin and Delia Vissers. She married William Bill Van Asten on September 28 1944 at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute. On September 28 2004 Marian and Bill celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with all their children and grandchildren in attendance. Marian enjoyed spending her time gardening and cooking. She cherished the many memories made in her kitchen with her family sharing her most famous recipes especially her fan favorite chocolate chip cookies. Jerry was born to Harold and Mildred Newhouse in Kimberly. He graduated from Kimberly High School class of 1959. In 1961 he joined the Navy and proudly served on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany CVA 34 aka the Mighty O. He served from 1961 until he was honorably discharged in 1964. He belonged to the American Legion Post 38 in Appleton. Jerry was employed at Gilbert Paper in Menasha for 39 years never missing a day until they suddenly closed. He finished his working days at Floors by Robert in Appleton as a tow motor driver. Her younger years were spent playing in the beautiful sands of Little Silver Lake with her friends. As they grew older they transitioned to the "L" a teen adventure. Linda loved life and Little Silver Lake. However she did not love the "dumb" rules set by her ultra conservative father. Curfews were set and broken weekly. Bill was born on October 10 1938 in Strasburg North Dakota to Fred Goetz and Regina Reinbold Goetz. He attended high school at Assumption Abbey a Benedictine Monastery in Richardton North Dakota. There he received an excellent education which served him well all his life. Bill served in the U.S. Army and learned field radio repair before joining the Airborne at Fort Bragg North Carolina. After discharge he came to Appleton Wisconsin where he met his soulmate Marilyn Heule. They married in 1962 and she was the center of his life for over 64 years.
